Alternatives to Suspension & Manifestations Determinations | December 8, 2026 | 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Explore the purpose and benefits of alternatives to suspension and examine how these strategies can be implemented within a tiered system of behavioral supports. For circumstances requiring removal, Compliance Consultants will provide guidance on the data to review when making a manifestation determination, as well as how to document suspensions while remaining compliant with IDEA.
Dr. Nicole Conaway serves our member districts by developing staff capacity with behavior management strategies, data collection and interventions. She has thirty years of experience in education as a special education teacher, special education coordinator, climate\culture coordinator, assistant principal and principal. She has 15 years of experience serving as a school administrator in a high-risk, low-income district. She is passionate about working with schools to ensure all students receive what they need as individuals to succeed in the classroom and beyond, because fair doesn’t always mean equal.
