Cognitive Coaching is a model for supporting thinking that allows educators to explore the thinking behind their practices. This model is especially powerful to use with students and colleagues to empower them to THINK. The ultimate goal is for individuals to self-monitor, self-analyze and self-evaluate. This model is for you if you are looking for an alternative to external evaluation.

In Cognitive Coaching, participants learn to:
• develop trust and rapport
• utilize conversation structures for planning, reflecting and problem-solving
• develop teacher (and student) autonomy and sense of community
• develop higher levels of efficacy, consciousness, craftsmanship, flexibility and interdependence
• utilize the coaching tools of pausing, paraphrasing and posing questions
• use data to mediate thinking
