ELevate Conference | June 7 - 8, 2023 | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
The ELevate Conference offers professional learning opportunities for all K-12 English learner educators. This two day event features keynote addresses and workshops by Dr. Kate Kinsella and 2021 National Teacher of the Year, Juliana Urtubey, as well as over 35 different breakout sessions presented by leaders in EL education from around the region.
Participants will learn innovative strategies for improving instruction, how to maximize student assets, and how to provide school leadership that facilitates the inclusion of culturally and linguistically diverse students in every lesson, every day.
The first day of the conference kicks-off with a keynote address by Improving Education for English Learners: Research-Based Approaches author, Kate Kinsella. Following her keynote, Dr. Kinsella will lead two breakout sessions focused on pedagogical practices.
The second day of the conference begins with a keynote from Juliana Urtubey, 2021 National Teacher of the Year. Juliana's keynote focuses on effective practices for SLIFE students, followed by a workshop that takes an in-depth look at rapid literacy strategies for secondary English learner emergent readers.

Dr. Kate Kinsella is an emeritus teacher educator from San Francisco State University where she addressed English as a Second Language scholarship and proven practices. As a teacher educator, Dr. Kinsella taught for a decade in the university’s Step to College program for first generation high school bilingual students. Her experiences and curriculum creation to support English learners for a successful first year in college greatly informed her development of English 3D, the first targeted English language development program specifically designed for long-term English learners.
Juliana Urtubey, a first-generation, bilingual immigrant, has worked throughout her teaching career to serve as a mirror for her school community, helping students to be proud of their identities and families, and to acknowledge their strengths and contributions to the community. As 2021 National Teacher of the Year, Juliana advocates for a “joyous and just” education for all students, one that is inclusive and celebratory of all students’ identities, families and communities. Since being announced as National Teacher of the Year, Juliana has shared her “joyous and just” message with pre-service teachers, educators and policymakers across the country and through U.S. and international media.
