Hancock Place High School invites educators to experience how a culture-first framework has transformed teaching, learning and student outcomes through the implementation of Personalized Competency-Based Education (PCBE).
Hancock Place has moved beyond the traditional 100-point scale and letter grades to create a system in which learning is made visible, progress is measured through evidence, and students are given meaningful opportunities to grow. This work has contributed to a dramatic reduction in failure rate, significant gains on all Missouri End-of-Course assessments, and remarkable improvements in school culture, discipline, tardiness and other key measures of student success.
During this full-day professional learning experience, participants will engage in interactive workshop sessions, classroom observations, tabletop exercises and candid conversations with students and teachers. A school tour will provide an opportunity to see competency-based education in action, including reteaching / relearning time, evidence-based assessment practices and real-world learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond high school.
Student and teacher panels will offer an authentic look at how the model is experienced in practice. Participants will hear how learning is communicated, how evidence of learning is gathered and how the school’s systems and practices support both student agency and teacher innovation.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided, with time built into the day for collaboration and reflection. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how Hancock Place’s Culture First Framework supports the implementation of PCBE, along with practical strategies they can adapt to their own schools, districts and communities.

With over 17 years of experience in educational leadership, David Williams is the principal at Hancock Place High School, where he’s leading the charge on personalized competency-based education (PCBE) and data-driven instruction. David is passionate about creating a strong school culture that supports both students and teachers.

If an event is cancelled due to inclement weather or low enrollment, a full refund will be issued.
No-shows will be billed in full.
