17% of teachers leave the career within the first five years but research shows effective professional development is a key factor in teacher retention. As teachers enter the career, a collaborative community of learners can help them transition from their role as a student to that of teacher. This program is part of the Missouri Teacher Development System, which is an on-going system of learning for Missouri teachers.

This opportunity provides:

  • networking with other new teachers and educational consultants
  • just-in-time learning (critical firsts)
  • awareness of the phases of a new teacher
  • relationship-building skills
  • on-demand learning, including videos by Mike Rutherford

MTDS: Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP A) meets Missouri's BTAP certification requirements. All new teachers must take a BTAP course within the first four years of teaching to ensure renewal of their license.

Attendance is required at all five sessions:

Session 1: Wednesday, January 10, 2024
Session 2: Thursday, February 1, 2024
Session 3: Friday, March 1, 2024
Session 4: Monday, April 1, 2024
Session 5: Monday, May 6, 2024
