MTDS TeachNow: Alt Cert Institute - DESE Program | August 4, 2025 - April 29, 2026 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
The fee for this PD is a non-refundable DESE program fee.
MTDS TeachNow: Alt Cert Institute supports those entering the teaching profession through a non-traditional avenue. This institute will assist non-traditionally certified teachers in preparing to teach their students. This program is not a substitute for a Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP).
Covered in this institute:
- lesson planning strategies
- alignment of objectives to district curriculum and/or Missouri Learning Standards
- research-based classroom management strategies, effective classroom practices and strategies for discouraging unwanted behaviors
- vocabulary, acronyms and codes of conduct teachers are expected to know
- other topics based on the needs of the group
This program is not a substitute for a Beginning Teacher Assistance Program. It is highly recommended that you enroll in MTDS BTAP with EducationPlus, a required program for all first-year teachers to attain their next level of certification.
Attendance is required at all four sessions:
Session 1: Monday, August 4, 2025
Session 2: Tuesday, August 5, 2025
Session 3: Monday, August 11, 2025
Session 4: Wednesday, April 29, 2026
Emily Hilligoss serves our member districts by providing professional development to support new teachers. Emily has been in education for nine years serving as a library clerical aide, secondary ELA teacher, and as a district curriculum and instructional coach. She was a 2022 St. Louis Regional Teacher of the Year and a semi-finalist for the state of Missouri. Emily believes that building relationships both in and out of the classroom is the foundation upon which we grow. She is passionate about supporting and empowering teachers to confidently and effectively help students reach success.
