This foundational training is designed for educators who are new to Restorative Practices (RP) and want to gain a basic understanding of how it can be implemented effectively in a school setting. Explore the core philosophy behind RP, differentiate it from traditional disciplinary approaches, and learn a variety of proactive and responsive tools to build community and address conflict. This session provides a practical starting point for shifting from a punitive to a relational mindset.
John Converse is a restorative practitioner who brings 19 years of educational experience to life in his interactions with others. He has a set of skills that foster belonging and connection through the art of restorative practices. He is a certified trainer with the International Institute for Restorative Practices(IIRP), Crisis Prevention Institute(CPI), Question Persuade Refer(QPR), and Youth Mental Health First Aid(YMHFA). These skills have helped him navigate the education field and build relationships with staff, students, and community members in all areas. His background includes roles as a classroom teacher and school administrator. He is currently the Director of Restorative Practices at EducationPlus, a non-profit focused on empowering educators throughout Missouri.
