Students with disabilities under both the IDEA and Section 504 are entitled to additional protection with regard to school discipline. Typically, these protections are required when a change in a student's educational placement for more than 10 school days occurs. Calculating these days is not straightforward and has landed many districts in hot water.

Looking through a legal lens at partial days, cumulative suspensions, in-school suspensions, bus suspensions and other perplexing issues, attorney Betsey Helfrich will answer your top questions and take the mystery out of discipline for students with disabilities
